He was very active in local and state civic affairs, Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, Boy Scouts, Chamber of Commerce, etc. He spoke throughout the northwestern states on Americanism, dangers of Communism, etc. Last year he spoke to St. Paul Kiwanis at Capp Towers Motel on his travels through Communist dominated countries in Europe, and especially of conditions in his native Czechoslovakia, from whence he emigrated as a boy. Very active in Western Bohemian Fraternal Association as chapter president, state chairman and assistant on National Board of Directors (Suc- ceeded me in the last two positions mentioned). Extremely per- sonable, gregarious, liked to lead in singing. A rare type of person who knew how to enjoy the arts, as well as good fellowship; but extremely serious and dedicated to his country and fellowmen when the occasion dictates.
