Subject: Grading and surfacing of Sylvan from
Arlington to Cottage
Date: January 13, 1966
At the council session of January 4, 1966, the subject matter was
laid over for two weeks to January 18 for further conferences with
the abutting property owners.
Notification of a meeting held by the Department of Public Works on
Wednesday, January 12, was made to all the abutting owners. Only one
owner, Mrs. Handt, of the four abutting owners attended. Mrs. Handt
was in to protest against the proposed improvement because of the
high costs involved. Two of the abutting owners phoned stating they
were unable to attend the meeting but took no particular stand on
the proposed improvement. The primary petitioner, Mr. W. Stringer,
was not present at the meeting.
Based on' the fact that the Arlington Avenue improvement from Rice
to Jackson is presently under construction and will place an assess-
ment burden on the corner properties in the near future, the fact
that the petition for this proposed improvement is weak, and the
fact that the west side properties are low and undeveloped, it is
my recommendation that this order be denied at this time.
