BUREAU OF PUBLIC BUILDINGS ROBERT L. AMES, City Archifect 445 Cify Hall, 55102 22446Q, RE 361
September 20, 1966
Honorable Thomas R, Byrne, Mayor
and
Members of the City Council

Subject: 1406 Thomas Street
Gentlemen:
The following is a report of the Building Department on conditions
of the garage located at the rear of the property at 1406 Thomas
Street, owned by Homer G. Hickok, and the following appear to have
an interest of record: Kohout Realty and Robert Kastner. The
legal description of the property is: Lot 2, Block 20, Syndicate
No. 5 Addition to Saint Paul.
Inspections were made on July 27, 1966., and the condition of the
property as noted at that time is as follows: The garage building
at the rear of 1406 Thomas is approximately 20 feet long, 18 feet
wide and 10 feet high, is of wood frame construction. It is in a
very dilapidated condition, with the doors falling apart and the
wood rotting. The roofing has been partially removed exposing the
rafters, the roof has a sag in the center section of approximately
ten inches, and the rolled roofing used as siding is in poor condi-
tion with large holes exposing the subshea$ang. The framing
members in the building are rotting.
It is the opinion of this department that because of the above
described condition of the building that it is to be considered
a fire hazard and in unsafe condition, and that the building is
beyond reasonable repair.
Therefore, it is the conclusion of the Bureau of Public Buildings
that by reason of inadequate maintenance, dilapidation, physical
damage, unsanitary condition and abandonment that this building
constitutes a hazard to public health, safety and welfare. It is
