An ordinance imposing a tax on the
users of water and providing for the
assessment and collection thereof.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1. There is hereby imposed on the amounts paid to
the Board of Water Commissioners for water consumption for water
delivered within the corporate limits of the City a tax of 1¢ per
i.FO cubic feet.
Section 2. The' tax imp'osed- by-this "ordinance --sY rill- be "a
direct tax on the user of water and shall be paid by the person
paying -the water charges. This tax shall be-due and payable upon
receipt of a statement for such water charges from the Board of
Water Commissioners. The word "person" as used in this ordinance
shall mean any individual, corporation, firm, partnership, organ-
ization, or other group acting as a unit. It also includes any
executor, administrator, trustee, receiver, or other representa-
tive appointed by law.
Section 3. The Board of Water Commissioners shall collect
the amount of the tax from the person paying for such water and
remit the same to the Commissioner of Finance within 30 days
after collection, less one percent(l %) of the tax so collected
to be retained by the Board of Water Commissioners to cover the
cost of collection and accounting.
Section 4. Water furnished to the Government of the United
States or any State or Territory of the United States or any
political subdivision of the foregoing shall not be subject to the
tax imposed by this ordinance. All claims for exemption of the
tax imposed by this ordinance under the provisions of this Section
shall be directed to the Commissioner of Finance, who shall allow
such claims or make refunds wherecappropriate,iudder: law.

Section 5.- If- any - part,'--sentence or-- clause 'of `this -ordinance
shall be adjudged void or of no effect, for any reason whatsoever,
such decision shall not affect the validity of any of the remain-
ing portions of this ordinance.
Section 6. This ordinance shall become effective at 12:01 a.m.
January 1, 1967, and shall expire at 11:59 p.m. December 31, 1967.

Section 7. This ordinance shall be deemed a part of the Saint
Paul Legislative Code and shall be incorporated therein and given
an appropriate chapter and /or section number at the time of the
next revision of the said Legislative Code.
