WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States of America has designated the calendar week of each yeaz
during which May 15 occurs as"National Police Week" and May 15� of each year to be "Peace Officers'
Memorial Day;" and
5 WHEREAS law enforcement officers aze our guazdians of life and properry, defenders of the individual's
6 right to be free, warriors in the war against crime, and dedicated to the preservarion of life, liberiy, and the
7 pursuit of happiness; and
8 WHEREAS, it is known that every forty-nine hours a police officer will be kiiled in the line of duty
9 somewhere in the United States, and 170 officers will be seriously assaulted in the performance of their duties.
10 NOW, THEREFORE� BE IT RESOLVED� that the Saint Paul City Council, and our community, join
11 with other cities and towns to honor all peace officers everywhere and do hereby declaze the week of
12 May 15t to May 21St to be POLICE WEEK
13 in the City of Saint Paul; and
14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that during this week our citizens honor and show our sincere
15 appreciation for the police officers of this city by deed, remarks, and attitude and make every effort to express
16 their thanks to the men and women who make it possible for us to leave our home and families in safety each
17 day and to return to our homes lrnowing we are protected by men and women willing to sacrifice their lives, if
18 necessary, to guard our loved ones, properiy, and government against all who would violate the law.
