PAUL FOENCIL NO OFFICE O�F THE CITY CLERK � OUNCIL RE OLUTIO —GENERAL FORM � PRESENTED BY ''' COM M I551 O N E � DATF WHEREAS, on August 8, 1967, at 9: 30 o ' clock A.M. , , in the Assembly Room, 11th Floor, Federal Reserve Bank, Minneapolis, Minnesota, there will be a hearing before the Hearing Egaminer of the Interstate Commerce Commission, Edmund T. Fritz, on a petition of the Chicago, Rock Island � and Pacific Railroad Company to discontinue its passenger trains Nos . 15 and 16 between Minneapolis , Min.nesota and Kansas City, Missouri; and . � .,a WHEREAS, the Council of::the City of Saint Paul, " being duly advised in the premises, finds that it is n.ot _ in the best interests of the citizens of Saint Paul or of the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area to have the aforesaid , trains discontinue,d; and � , „�a`. ,.1 W�REAS� the Council strongly objects to tli.e apparent . p policy of piecemeal discontinuance of passenger train aervice � which is becoming increasingly apparent, contrary to the obli- � gations of our railroads to operate as public service ' co rporations, � � Now, Therefore , be it � � 1 , � � ` l o m - RESOLVED, ,That the Council is unalterably opposed to the discontinuance of these trains , and urges a moratorium � on all passenger tr�ain discontinuances until the railroads can � �� N prove that -all efforts have been made to render the best possible `-° public service on such trains, including incorporation of modern technological advances in passenger transportation and modern advertising and promotional techniques , and until a broader investigation is conducted of the over-all passenger train situation; and be it FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Council �hereby authorizes . and directs the Mayor, or his designee , to appear on �behalf of the City of Saint Paul at the hearing aforesaid and to pre- sent to the Hearir�g Egaminer a copy of this Resolution, and to egpress the City' � opposition to discontinuance of Passenger Trains 15 and 16. ;� � ` AUG 819�7 COUNCILMEN ' Adopted by the Council I9— Yeas Nays � � AUG, 6 ��J�� � Dalglish Approved � 19— Holland Tn Favor Meredith � �1 �) � Mayor � A gainst Tedesco • Mr. President, Byrne PUBLISHED AUG 1� �9�1 - �22
