Paul Plannin� Commission I recently listened to Mayor Kelly speak with neighbors at a StreetBeat meeting at the Lonetri home, and learned about the future growth and change in store for St. Paul. I was already awaze of St. Paul Planning Commission, but listening to the mayor provided the encouragement to act on my desue to learn more about my city and help pian for its future. I have lived in the Midway-Hamline neighborhood for two years, and in that short amount of time, I have seen posirive changes, both in the commercial and residential azeas of my neighborhood. I lmow that many more changes are coming, particularly with transit expansion on the horizon. Because my neighborhood will be an important azea of change in the coming years, I would like to conhibute to the plamiing process. 'I'hree other issues over whi�h the Commission has considerable influence draw my interest. First, since its inception, I have been a supporter ofMayor Keliy's Housing 5000 iniriarive. I would like this program to remain strong and viable in the future. Second, I think it is important to continue to have a strong downtown. I'm a former resident of Lowertown, and a former employee of Minnesota Life. Tlurd, it is important to me that we consider thoughtful ways ensure a successful future for the immigant communities that continue to grow in our city. I'm a first generation Asian-American, and have taken note of the massive influx of Hmong immigrants making their way to St. Paul and my neighborhood. I would like to help with the planning aspects that assist with accomxnodating this important population growth. Pve spoken with two members of the Pianning Commission about their experiences. Christine Zimmer-I,onetti and Dan Scott have talked with me about their experiences on the Commission and the commihnent necessary. Through these discussions, I have a basic awazeness of the tasks of the commission, and substantively, I am deeply interested in participating.
