WHEREAS, Gladys was one of three girls and two boys born to her parents; her fafher; an aide
to a retired U.S. Colonel and her mother, a school teacher; and,
WHEREAS, Gladys attended Mechanic Arts High School and later took some college courses;
and,
WHEREAS, Gladys worked twelve years as Secretary and O�ce Mauager to doctors Brimhall,
Ferguson and VanSlack in the Lowry Medical Arts Building in downtown 5aint Paul; and,
WHEREA5, Gladys married Samuel Hartley Johnson in 1928; they purchased their home on
Iglehart Avenue in Saint Paul in 1942; and,
WHEREAS, Gladys and her husband, Samuel traveled extensively and celebrated 26 years of
marriage before his death; and, �
WHEREA5, Gladys remains in her home and enjoys working in her gardea and was given the
nick name "Flower Lady" often, winning community recognition for the most beautiful yard;
and,
WHEREAS, Gladys was the choir director and sang at St. James AME Church in Saint Paul,
where she has been a member since the age of 18 years old; and;
WHEREAS, Gladys is adoringly referred to as "Auntie" by her nieces and nephews;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council does hereby pnblicly
recognize Gladys Johnson for her contribution and dedication to her community and city; and,
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council does he
February 25, 2005, to be GLADYS JOHNSON DAY in the City of Saint
