1 VJI IEREAS, in two decades as allorthwest Airlines leader, John Massetti fought for his members' interests during
2 a strike, an airline merger, wage concessions, and multiple rounds of layoffs; and
WIIEREAS, Massetti, was a humble leader with integrity; and
4 WHEREAS, Massetti, of Saint Paul, was a long-time secretary-treasurer of District 143 of the International
5 Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), the largest union at Northwest, and held the No. 2 post
6 with the IAM from 1979 through 1994, and from 1999 until his retirement in early 2004; and
7 WHEREAS, Massetti was motived by service to others, including raising money for Guide Dogs of America, an
8 organization that provides dogs for free to blind persons; and
9 WHEREAS, Massetti played the violin, loved classical music, spoke Spanish and Italian, was a voracious reader,
10 and was an active volunteer, including delivering food for Meals on Wheels with his wife, Mary; and be it
11 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council extends their sincere sympathy to Mary Massetti and to John and
12 Mary's family, and recognizes John's dedication and contributions to his family and community.
