THE COIINCIL OF THE CITY OF SAINT PAUI, DOE� ORDgIN:
� �ection 1. That Chapter 487 of the �aint Paul Legislative
Code is hereby amended by deleting the same in its entirety and -
inserting the following in place and in lieu thereofs

�: 487.01. From and after January 1� 1g68, ''each police
officer, whether serving in uniform or in plain clothes, shall be
entitled to and given by the �Bureau of Police a credit allowance
in the amount of �120.00 per year� to be used to replace worn � �
items of apparel as hereinafter provided. �aid allowance shall ..
be accumulative from year to year. �pparel damaged in line of �
duty may� at the discretion of the Bureau� be replaced. TrJhen
authorized, such •replacement shall not be charged to the account
_ of the individual officer.
487.02. Items of clothing for whi:ch allowance is authorized
are limited to the following:

�` 487.03. B�.dget Item. Each year there shall be set up in
the Budget of the Department of Public �afet�, an amount to be
designated as clothing allowance, sufficient to pay the cast
which may be incurred by the Bureau under �he terms of this
Chapter.

shall be kept in a manner consistent wtth procedures as
established by the Comptroller' s office and shall be subj�ct
to their inspection. No officer shall receive any credit
allowance for any period dnring whic� his name does not appear
on the payroll of the Bureau of Police� and a percentage of
the credit corresponding to that period shall be subtracted
from his clothing allowance.
487.05. Bids Required. To carry out the intent of this
chapter� it shall be the dutp of the Purchasin� Agent� e�rery
two years, to call for bids from qualified suppliers of items
of uniform designated� and to let a contract pursuant to
Charter provisions relative thereto. The s�.ecessful bidders
shall be required to employ a tailor or enter into a contract
with a tailor so proper fittings may be secured on uniform
, equipment� as part of the pnrchase price on a particular item.
48�.06. Transfers. 'L7h.ere an officer is transferred
within the Bureau and where such transfer is from plainclothes
to unif.orm duty� the Bureau is authorized to purchase the initial
uniform for the person so transferred. This shall not be
applicable until completion of a probationary period, and it is
not intended, nor shall it be used for the plarchase of uniforms
for members who are initially appointed to the Bvreau.

487.07. �e aration from Service. Officers who are re- ., �
quired by law to erminate heir employment due to age shall,
during the year of retirement, be credited with a monthly amount
equal to 1/12 of the yearly amount� up to the first day of the
month of retirement. Officers who retire but whose retirement
is not mandatory and who have for that year used the clothi�g
allowance in excess of that amount which would normally accrue
to them on a monthly basis shall reimburse the City for that
portion in excess of the monthly credits.
�ection 2. That Ordinance No. 13301� approved August 4�
1966, is hereby repealed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect and be in
force January 1� 1968.
