WHEREAS the City of Saint Paul has received a plaiming grant from ServeMinnesota for the Capitol City
Education Initiative; and
WHEREAS, ServeMinnesota is authorized by its Board, according to Minnesota law, to implement the Minnesota
Xouth Works program and the Federal AmeriCorps program to make grants to cany out the mission and
purpose of the Corporation for National and Community Serves; and
WHEREAS, the primary objective of the Education Iniriative is to unprove the reading level of young students so
they can achieve the important educational benchmazk of reading at grade level by 3' grade; and
WHEREAS, the 2004 Adopted budget includes $74,000 in financing and spending far this grant to the Capitol
City Education Initiative; and
TFIEREFOizE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts this grant and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to
enter into the grant agreement with ServeMinnesota.
