1 WFiEREAS the City of Saint Paul has received a grant from ServeMinnesota far the Capitol City Education
2 Initiative; and
4 WHEREAS, ServeMinnesota is authorized by its Board, according to Minnesota law, to nnplement the Minnesota
5 Youth Works program and the Federal AmeriCorps program to make gants to cany out the mission and

purpose of the Corporation for National and Community Serves; and
WHEREAS, the primary objective of the Education Initiative is to improve the reading level of young students so
they can achieve the important educational benchmark of reading at grade level by 3' grade; and
WHEREAS, the grant provides funding to continue the Capitol City Educarion Initiative through 2005 by
providing a total �ant award of $ 135,500, including $117,360 in federal funds and $ 18,140 in state funds; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVF,D, that the City Council accepts this grant and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to
enter into the grant agreement with ServeMinnesota.
