Wf3EREAS, The Board of Water Commissioners has entered into an agreement (No. 55919) with
� the State of Minnesota Highway Department to relocate Water Department facilities necessi-
' tated by Minnesota State Highway Department construction on Trunk Highway 56; and,

tWf�REAS, The Board of Water Commissioners are reimbursed by the State of Minnesota for� all
costs of such necessitated relocation works; and,
i
W�REAS, The relocation of a twelve (T2") inch water main at the intersection of Kansas
Street and Concord Street will require the use of steel sheet pile for excavating purposes,
over and above which was initiallq contemplated; and, .
` WHEREAS, The Water Department is not equipped to perform the steel sheet pile installation
and the State's Contractor (Walter D. Giertsen Co. , 3501 Renwood Ave. , Minneapolis,
� Minnesota) working on a sewer installation at the same site is equipped and is ��n a
� position to perform this work for the Water Department; and,
i ,
WHEREAS, To coordinate the sewer work and water main relocation work it is recommended, by
' State Highway personnel, that both projects be performed by the same contractor; and,
WHEREAS, The Walter D. Giertsen Company has submitted unit prices for various equipment and
ipersonnel (copy attached hereto) to perform the,necessary work; these_.unit-prices being• - -
, approved by the State of Minnesota Highwaq Department. The Maximum amount of the work
� performed for the steel sheet piling, excavation, and backfill is not to exceed eight
� thousand ($8,000.00) dollars. � � '
, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Purchasing Agent be and he is hereby authorized
' with the consent of the Comptroller and the Mayor, to enter into a contract with the
Walter D. Giertsen Co. , 3501 Xenwood Avenue, Minneapolis, Minnesota, based upon unit prices
as submitted and attached herewith; a total sum not to exceed eight thousand ($8,000.00)
dollars, without advertisement or competitive bids pursuant to Section 291 of the Charter
; of the City of Saint Paul, as failure to act promptly will work injurq to the City of
i Saint Paul. , -
