A G R E E M E N T
THIS AGREII�lIENr, By and bet��reen the City of Saint Paul,
a municipal corporation of the State of Minnesota, hereinafter
designated "City," and Legal Assistance of Ramsey County, Inc., a
rlLinnesota nonprofit corporation, hereinafter desi�nated "Legal
Assistance,"
�'7IT�SSET�i:
1. City desires to provide independent legal counsel at
no expense to persons accused of misdemeanors eommitted within its
boundaries �vho are financially unable to procure private counsel.
2. Legal Assistance agrees to provide counsel to such
persons aceused of misdemeanors committed within the City's boundaries
as are entitled thereto under la�rr, the provisions of this contract,
o r. Legal Assistance's determination as to their indigency. �
3. City shall have no pov,�er nor right to influence any .
decision of Legal Assistance to represent or not to represent any
person, nor as to the manner and extent o� representation to be
provided any person or in any class of cases, nor as to entering
or dismissing any plea or appeal, provided Legal Assis.tance provides.
the services required hereunder in a competent and �vorkmanlike manner.
�. In consideration of the services rendered hereunder, �
City vrill pay Legal Assistance One Thousand Dollars (�1,000) per
month, payable on the last day thereof upon receipt of a statement
from Legal Assistance directed to the Cor�oration Counsel and
approved for payment by him. The first such payment shall be due �
March 31, 1g68.
5. Legal Assistance agrees to devote all sums received
hereunder to the fulfillment of this contract and to make no profit �
� therefrom, ar.d �,vill forti�rard to the Corporation Counsel at the end
of each quarter of the calendar year a statement listir� the amounts
expended for �.ttorneys' salaries, supplies, expense, and pro rata
share of overhead costs.

6. This contract shall commence as of March 1, 1g68 and
shall run through December 31, 1968. It may be renev�ted for additional
terms of one year by mutual con�ent of the City Council and the Board ;
of IJirectors of Legal Assi::tance subject to s,�ch ad justment in fees as
the parties may agree to.
7. This contract or any extension or modification thereof
may be cancelled by either party prithout cause by ninety (9�) days' .
