04-541� Green Sheet # '��lo�y RESOLUTION OF SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA Presented By Referred To Committee: Date WHEREAS, one of the economic development initiatives of the City is the creation of jobs in the life sciences; and WHEREAS, in furtherance of that goal, the Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) purchased land and a building for a life sciences incubator and the City allocated $500,000 in neighborhood STAR receipts; and WI3EREAS, in furtherance of that goai, it is appropriate far City officials to attend 10 il 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 gatherings at which life science companies aze present to promote the City, learn more about job creation opportunities, and interact with company executives; and WFIEREAS, the 2004 international BIO conference will be held in San Francisco, on June 6-9, 2004, and more than 16,000 biotech executives, investors, journalists, policymakers and scientists, from more than 55 countries, are expected to attend and numerous meetings, seminars and receprions will take place; and WHEREAS, mayors and govemors from across the country, including Mayor Kelly, Mayor Rybak and Governor Pawlenty, will be in attendance at various functions promoting our region as home for life sciences economic development; and WHEREAS, the City is paying for the travel and lodging expenses of the Mayor to attend the BIO conference; and IZ Page 1 of 2 23 WHEREAS, the BIO organization, which is the sponsor of the conference, has offered, through 24 the MvBIO organizafion, to provide passes to Saint Paui and Mimieapolis to facilitate participation in 25 conference events by city executives attending the conference; 26 27 NOW, THEREFOI2E, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council declares there to be a public 28 purpose in Mayor Kelly's participation in the conference and accepts the conference pass on behalf of 29 the City and appropriates the pass to Mayor Kelly's official use.
