1 WHEREAS, The Department of Fire and Safety Services is seeking funds to purchase smoke
2 detectors; and

4 WHEREAS, the public purpose is to enhance public safety by providing smoke detectors to
5 citizens in Saint Paul; and
7 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul desires to continue its smoke detector Give Away program;
8 and
9
10 WHEREAS, the Wal-Mart Foundation has a grant program which the Department of Fire and
11 Safety Services may submit an application requesting one thousand dollars to purchase battery-
12 operated smoke detectors that will be given away to the general population of Saint Paul; and
13
14 WHEREAS, the Department of Fire and Safety Services, pursuant to the attached grant
15 application, needs City Council review and endorsement of the attached grant application; and
16
17 NOW THEREFORE, IT BE RESOLVED, that the proper City officials are hereby authorized
18 and directed to execute the application, hereto attached, for the City of Saint PauPs Department
19 of Fire and Safety Services to apply to Wal-Mart for this purpose; and

- 2 �B IT F[JRTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council, accepts the grant, if granted by Wal-Mart,
3 and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into, and Fire Chief Douglas Holton to implement,
4 the grant.
