1 Resolufion Declaring May 5, 2004 to be Joe Medina Aay in the City of Saint Paul
2 WIIEREAS, Ioe Medina is an extraordinary man; and
3 WHEREAS, Joe Medina, 89 years old, is a World Waz II veteran. He has since been very active with the
4 Mexican-American's Post #5; and
5 WHEREAS, Joseph (Joe) Medina was born in Mexico on July 19, 1914. When he arrived in Saint Paul,
6 Minnesota, the Robert Street Bridge was just being completed. Joe settled on the West Side of Saint Paul,
7 where he and his wife, Sarah, owned Monterey's Bar. They raised their four children, two boys and two girls,
8 on the West Side of Saint Paul; and
9 WHEREAS, Joe was an accomplished musician. He had his own band; he played altosaxaphone and played at
10 many dances. Because of Joe's musical talents, he was a mentor for many Hispanic musicians; and
ll WHEREAS, Joe has been very dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, giving much of his time and talent
12 to the church. He has been an usher at the church for 35 years. He is still very active with the Am-Vets and
13 CLUE's (seniors) at Our Lady of Czuadalupe Church; and
14 WHEREAS, the community honors Joseph Medina as the Grand Marshall of the 2004 Cinco de Mayo Parade;
15 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby declares May 5, 2004 to be
16 Joe Medina Day in the City of Saint Paul.
