1 WHEREAS, the 5t. Paul Police Department was approached by the St. Paui Building Owners and
2 Managers Association (BOMA) about esploring the use of a Segway personal transportation device in
3 the Downtown Patrol Unit; and
WHEREAS, BOMA has offered to donate a Segway, $4,500 value, for use in the downtown and
sliyway system; and

WHEREAS, the public purpose of this donation is to assist police personnel by increasing their
efficiency in responding to calls for service in a proactive and creative manner for those who live,
work, and visit the central business district of St. Paul; and
WHEREAS, the St. Paul Police Department would like to accept this donation from BOMA; and
BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul accepts this generous donation and extends its sincere
thanks to BOMA.

The St. Paul Police Department was approached by BOMA about ezploring the use of a Segway
personal transportation deyice in the Downtown Patrol Unit. BOMA offered to donate a Segway for
use in the downtown and skyway system.

The St. Paul Police Department can experiment with the efficiencies that might be gained by the Segway's use,
increase visible eaposure of police personnel, sigrdfy the creativeness of the departrnent in pursuing new
policing methods, and enhance policing initiatives.
