1 WIIEREAS, Municipal Clerks across the counhy serve an integral role in the provision of quality seroices to citizens and
2 communities; and
3 WHEREAS, the City Clerk's ofFice in Saint Paul provides important services to Saint Paul that enhance accountability
4 and allow citizens an opportunity to understand and engage in the process of governing; and
5 WHEREAS, the Minnesota Clerks and Finance Officers Asscciation (MCPOA) along with the International Institute of
6 Municipal Clerks (IIMC) have been providing guidance and education to clerks acress the counh-y for many years; and
7 WHEREAS, after considerable effort by the Saint Paul City Clerk's office and the MCFOA, Saint Paul was able to
8 secure the 2005 IIMC Annual Conference; and
9 WfIEREAS, this international conference will not only attract over a thousand participants and significant financial
10 investment, but will also be an opportuniTy for Saint Paul and other commmmities across the State of Minnesota to be at
11 the forefront of education and service; and
12 WHEREAS, it is critical for Saint Paul to take an active role in the success of this conference and in and the success of
13 clerks across the State; now therefore be it
14 RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul commends the Saint Paul City Clerk's office and the MCFOA for
15 their diligence in securing this important conference; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, that the City Council requests that the Mayor, along with Saint Paul's Marketing Department, make every
17 effort possible, including offering financial resources, to ensure that this event h-uly reflects the commihnent of our
18 community to the success of municipal clerks and the service of citizens.
