1 WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources through its Federal Recreation Trail
2 Program grant application process has made funding available for trail renovation projects; and
3 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Division of Parks and Recreation is an eligible applicant and
4 desires to submit an application to the Department of Natural Resources on February 27, 2004, in the amount
5 of $32,000 for the renovation of trails at Fumess Parkway and $31,000 for the renovation of trails at
6 Marydale Park; and
7 WHEREAS, maintaining bicycle and pedestrian trails in proper condition is essential to the safety
8 and enjoyment of trail users; and
9 WHEREAS, the trails in Furness Parkway and Marydale Park have been assessed as being in poor
10 condition by the Division of Parks and Recreation, Operations Section; and
11 WHEREAS, acquisition of DNR Federal Recreation Trail Program funding would enable the
12 Division of Parks and Recreation to undertake needed renovations on the aforementioned trail sites; now,
13 therefore,
14 BE I'I' RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul act as legal sponsor for the Fumess Pazkway and
15 Marydale Park Trail renovation projects contained in the National Recreation Trail Program grant application
16 to be submitted on Februazy 27, 2004, and that the Mayor and proper City officials are hereby authorized to
17 apply to the Department of Natural Resources for funding of this project in the amount of $32,000 and
18 $31,000 respective on behalf of the City of Saint Paul; and
19 BE IT F[JRTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and proper officials of the City of Saint Paul are
2 0 hereby authorized to execute such agreements as are necessazy to accept and implement the grant on behalf
21 of the City.
