Council and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1005 to avoid
pending bus strike
3 WHEREAS, bus transit in Saint Paul and throughout the Twin Cities moves people for reason of employment,
4 school, medical needs, and recreation; and
5 WIIEREAS, many of these riders are disabled, senior citizens, children of all ages; and
6 WHEREAS, for many riders, busing is their only means of transportation; and
7 WHEREAS, 20% of the workforce in Saint Paul use buses to commute to and from work; and
8 WHEREAS, there are 370 employees at the East Metro Garage that will be out of work during the strike; and
9 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council strongly urges the Metropolitan
10 Council to bargain and reach a fair agreement with Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1005 to avoid a bus strike
11 which would curtail the movement of people throughout the City of Saint Paul, furlough 370 employees, and
12 cause pain and hardship to the elderly,the poor,and the disabled.
