1 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul in the month of February 2004 hosted the Saint Paul Winter
2 Canuval and the NHL All Staz Event in downtown Saint Paul, and during a one-week period
3 experienced three snow emergencies; and

5 WHEREAS, the combination of all of these events resulted in the need for extraordinary traffic
6 control and parking measures, street clearing and plowing, planning and organization; and

8 WHEREAS, the majority of these extraordinary efforts and hard work were borne by the City's
9 Department of Public Works; and

WHEREAS, the result of the events and the extra efforts of the employees of the Depariment of
Public Works was to bring many visitors to downtown Saint Paul to enjoy and promote the City
and its amenities in a safe and efficient manner; and
WIIEREAS, the City of Saint Paul City Council and its Mayor desire to show the City's
appreciation to the employees of the Department of Public Works, to congrahxlate them for a job
well done and to thank them for their extra effort, and find that it is in the public interest to do so.
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED:
It is in the public interest to hold a pizza party to thank the employees of the Department of
Public Works for their extraordinary efforts during the month of February 2004, and for
representatives of the mayor and city council to appear and personaily commend them for a job
well done; and
The Deparhnent of Public Warks is hereby authorized to make an expenditure, not to exceed
$1000.00, to provide food and beverages for this event.

extraordinarily to showcase how well Saint Paul can manage large events. This wiEl demonstrate to them in a small way how
moch we appreciate their service.
