1 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul economically benefits from marketing and promoring statewide
2 attractions and events taking place in the City of Saint Paul; and
4 WHEREAS, the 2004 Winter Carnival provided the community with a major event that economically
5 benefitted area hospitality establishments as well as area businesses; and

7 WHEREAS, the public purpose is to bring mare visitors to Saint Paul to continue to attend events and
8 attractions taking place in the City; and
9
10 WHEREAS, the Minnesota Mayor Reception, one event during the 2004 Winter Carnival, provides a
11 great opportunity far Mayois from throughout the state to gather and meet one another, as well as a
12 chance for Saint Paul to showcase its many amenities to Mayors and their families throughout the state;

WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council want to thank the contributors listed below for their
contributions to offset the costs of the 2004 Minnesota Mayoral Reception; and
WHEREAS, the following contributions were donated from:
Saint Paul Pioneer Press, $1000, Hubbard Broadcasting, Inc. $1000 and the Saint Paul Companies,
$1000. For a total of $3000; and
WHEREAS, donations were solicited according to the Saint Paul Administrative Code section 41.04;
BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council, on behalf of the citizens of Saint Paul, accepts the
contributions to the City of Saint Pau1 Winter Carnival 2004 Mayoral Reception to cover the cost
associated with the event.
