04-1144UvcT�b�AWN - l�l8l��f RESOLUTION Presented � �1 OF SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA Z� Referred To Committee Date Support of Public Safetp in Saint Paul: Homeland Security, Minnesota Gang Strike Force and S00 MHz / 1 WI3�REAS, the City of Saint Paul believes that keeping its residents and visitors safe is a top priority ey component 2 in the quality of life and livability within the City; and 3 WI�REAS, the Ciry's Police and Fue departments have been asked to take on the add' ' nal responsibilities associated with 4 homeland security while maintaining their current work loads and responsibilif , and 5 WHEREAS, the reduction of violent gang activity is an important re ' nai goal undertaken by the City of Saint Paul; and 6 WHERfiAS, the City recognizes the value in developing implementing the 8Q0 MHz communication system and views 7 it as a vital tool in the war on crime and maintaining lic safety; and S WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council i e policy ma]dng body for the Clty of Saint Paul, and as such, its work is 9 inextricably linked to the City's I,egisl ' e Agenda; now, therefore be it 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 RESOLVED, that the City of int Faul supports and urges legislative passage of the following: 1. Funding for eland Security to local govemments; 2. Maintairi the Minnesota Gang Strike Force independent of the Minnesota Drug Task Force; 3. Supp ng the 800 Megahertz Radio Communication system by: • supporting Ramsey County efforts to expand the special levy to incorporate all expenses for developing and operating an interoperable coznmunications system • supporting the expanding of the limit for issuance of bonds above the $18 million limit • supporting the extension of Metropolitan Radio Boazd authority beyond its sunset date.
