(NHPI) John Betz reported Mike Cassidy (NHPI) inspected the property on October 14, 2004. There were two vehicles and a trailer parked on an unapproved surface, meaning it was not on concrete, asphalt, nor Class 5. An order was issued to the property owner to remove the vehicles from the surface. Mt. Betz was out there today to reinspect and the vehicle has been removed. John Pantelis, owner, appeared and stated he wants to park there and wants to be in compliance. He called NHPI to find out what he needs to do. He was told he had to go before the City Council. He made out a site plan. The neighbors have no complaints about it. He has been parking there far 20 years. Usually the car goes with him to work. He asked how he can comply with the rule. He is willing to rip the fence down to get the variance. (Mr. Betz showed Ms. Moermond a photograph of the area.) Ms. Moermond stated it is best to talk to someone in the Office of LIEP (License, Inspections, Environmental Protection) in person on the Third Floor of the Lowry Building. Mr. Betz stated he needs a parking site plan. Mr. Pantelis stated the neighbors have signed his request. Ms. Moermond stated they are here because the surface he was parking on was not legaL The process of getting it legal comes from another deparhnent. She is not sure a variance is required for what he is hying to do. If he does need a variance, LIEP will make that call. Ms. Moermond denied the appeal on the Correction Order dated October 14, 2004. The property has come into compliance and the owner is pursuing the appropriate permits to develop an approved parking surface. 1598 Hazel Street North; owner: Walter Montpetit.
