Resolution honoring T2olf Nordstrom for his service to the
Merriam Park Neighborhood
WHEREAS, Rolf Nordstrom, a resident of Merriam Pazk, served from October 2001, to October 2004, as
President of the Merriam Park Community Council through a dynamic period of great change and challenge for
the Memam Park neighborhood; and
4 WHEREAS, Rolf Nordstrom provided essential leadership to address financial threats and create long term
5 financial stability for this vital neighborhood nonprofit organization; and
6 WI�REAS, under Rolf Nordstrom's leadership, the Merriam Park Community Council completed its
7 comprehensive community plan for the next decade, which was formally adopted by the Saint Paul City Council
8 as part of the Comprehensive Plan for the City of Saint Paul; and
9 WIIEREAS, Rolf Nordstrom helped to turn community controversies into positive developments, including the
10 constnxcfion of a noise abatement wall along Interstate-94 in Merriam Pazk, and the mitigation of the impact of
11 a cell tower to be constructed in Merriam Pazk; and
12 WHEREAS, during Rolf Nordstrom's tenure, he helped dozens of residents secure funding for the exterior
13 improvements to their homes through Merriam Park's Pride in Neighborhood Housing Program; and
14 WHEREAS, Rolf Nordstrom's leadership as President extended to the reduction of billboards in Merriam Pazk,
15 the improvement of countless proposed land use changes and redevelopment
16 proposals, and the development of the Merriam Pazk Skateboazd Park; and
17 WHEREAS, under Rolf Nordstrom's leadership, the Merriam Park Community Council helped shape a more
18 equitable funding formula for the Saint Paul Citizen Participation Program; and
19 WHEREAS, Rolf Nordstrom provided leadership to help negoriate the historic compromise between neighbors
20 and the University of Saint Thomas for the expansion of the university, to include the rehabilitation and
21 conversion to homeownership of 30 student rental dwellings, and the formation of the West Sumuiit
22 Neighborhood Advisory Committee, empowered to guide future planning involving the neighborhood and the
23 university; now therefore be it

1 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council recognizes the e�ctraordinary commitment and energy Rolf
2 Nordstrom has invested in the betterment of the Merriam Park neighborhood, and ea�tends its deep appreciation
3 for the leadership he has modeled, and the many contribufions he has made to improve and strengthen the City
4 of Saint Paul.
