PAUL couNCi� NO �� U� OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK FILE COUNCIL RESOLUTION—GENERAL FORM PRESENTED BY COMMISSIONER DATF WHEREAS , the Naval Air Station, Twin Cities , since 1946 , has through its training pro,ram furnished the nation with over 2 ,500 Naval Aviation Offieers through its officer proeurement program; and whereaa , the Ataval Air Stata.on, Twin Cities , has also been the site of first enlistment for 5 ,600 Navy men during this same perzod of time ; and WHER�AS , the Naval Air Station, Twin Cities , is also the headquarters for the trainin� of over 2 ,300 Navy and Marine R�servists to the greater benefit of the country; and whereas , such training activities have da.stin�uished th� Naval Air Station, Twin Cities , by the award thereto of the Edwin Franeis Conway Trophy for overall efficiPncy five times ; and WHEREAS , the United States Department of Defense has announced plans to close thig Naval Facility, the only military establishment in Minnesota which serves a five state area, for so called "economy" reasons ; and whereas , such closing will not only be a detriment--to the defense readiness of the nation by causing Naval and Marine officers to travel a greater distance for training to the detriment of the overall program, but will also have an adverse effect upon the �conomy of the Twin Cities area; A10W, TIIEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Couneil of the City of Saint Paul hereby record its opposition to the closing of the Naval Air Station, Twin Cities, and the Mayor of the City of Saint Paul is hereby authorized and directed to send copies of this resolution to the United States Department of Defense and ta our Congressional Delegation. � �� ,: �,��,�� COUNCILMEN Adopted by the Councii ��'� 19— Yeas Nays r. , :.. ._ _. .. , -�:: Carlson � Dalglish ApprovecL 19— Meredith Tn Favor Peterson Sprafku � Mayor A gainst Tedesco Mr. President, Byrne �
