(Attach copy of Addendum) ADDENDUM NO. 1 • TO THE ' ' SPE CIFICATIONS FO R. ALBANY-ARONA RE,IEF SEWER 70-5-1239 1. DESCRIPTION The intent of this Addendum to the Specifications is to provide the City with the opportunity to receive and consider alternate bids, based on elimination of the re- quirement that sheeting be used for the deeper portions of the trench excavation, in order to determine if this method of construction would result in a sufficient saving in co st to make such a change wo rthwhile. 2. BID SHEET This Addendum provides for a revised bid sheet to be used in lieu of the bid sheet fur- nished with the original plans and specifications. The revised bid sheet includes an alternate bid item stating the amount to be added to or deducted from the base bid if construction is to be done without sheeting as provided for in this Addendum. 3. AWARD OF CONTRACT The City reserves the right to accept or reject any or all bids and to award the con- tract to the lowest responsible bidder on either the base bid or the alternate bid, re- gardless of compa.rative prices, as they may determine to be to the best interests of the City. 4. REQUIREMENTS OF THIS ADDENDUM If the contract is awarded on the basis of the alternate bid the provisions of this adden- dum shall apply. If the contract is awarded on the basis of the base bid the require- ments of this Addendum, other than those relating to bidding procedure, shall become void and the construction shall be governed by the requirements of the original project specifications without amendment. 5. EXCAVATION REQUIREMENTS Item 13 of the SPECIAL PROVISIONS of the original specifications for the work is voided and the following provisions shall be substituted therefor; During construction all excavation shall be maintained in such a condition that it will be well drained at all times, Temporary ditches and gutters shall be constructed where necessary to maintain drainage and to avoid damage to private property. The depth of certain portions of the sewer to be constructed under this contract and the type of soil it is anticipated will be encountered in excavation make it mandatory that the Contractor take positive and adequate measures to avoid damage to private property and to provide proper safety for the workmen. The Contractor shall use an adequate portable steel or steel and timber box during excavation and pipe laying operations and such supplementary sheeting as may prove to be necessary under the actual conditions encountered. Some limited use of sheeting may also be required for the protection of water main as hereinafter provided. The limits of excavation shall be confined to the street right-of-way in any event and to such more restricted extent as may prove to be necessary to avoid any damage whatsoever to private property. 5-1239 ADD No. 1 - Page 1 ► • • 6. TREE TRIMMING AND REMOVAL Item 15 of the SPECIAL PROVISIONS is amended to the extent that, under the provi- sions of this Addendum allowing for deep sewer construction by open cut, it is antici- pated that a number of trees will have to be removed. These trees will be removed and disposed of by the Contractor at his expense in lieu of his being paid for such work in accordance with the schedule of Fixed Unit Prices. In addition, if any trees are damaged by the Contractor to the extent that they require removal, in the opinion of the City Forester, such removal will be done by the Contractor at his expense. 7. EXISTING U TILITIES The provisions of Item 18 of the SPECIAI., PROVISIONS are expanded to direct the Contractor's attention to the increased possibility of damage to existing utilities if construction by open cut is permitted as provided for herein. In the case of the wa.ter main on Albany, in particular, the Contractor shall take adequate measures for pro- tection and maintenance of service of the existing main using such sheeting as may be required. In the event that damage or loss of water main occurs, the Water Depart- ment will provide facilities for temporary service and permanent replacement of the main upon completion of sewer construction at the Contractor's expense. 8. TREE REPLACEMENT The Contractor shall replace each tree removed under this contract with a new tree, when sewer construction is completed, in accordance with the following provisions. Trees shall be 5-inch or greater diameter, bagged and balled, and shall be hard Maple (Norway or Sugar), Green Spire Linden and Hackberry in such combination as directed by the City Forester to provide the desired diversified pattern. Each tree shall be guaranteed for a period of one year after planting. The cost of this work shall be at the Contractor's expense as a part of the base lump sum bid. 9. RESTOR.ATION OF STREETS, CURBS, BOULEVARDS AND 5IDEWAKS The Contractor's attention is directed to the increased quantities of these items which will be encountered under construction permitted by this Addendum and which work shall be accomplished under the provisions of the original specifications at the Contrac- tor's expense as a part of the lump sum bid.
