WHEREAS, the rodeo, an event dating back to the post-Civi] Waz era, originated from roping and bull riding competitions held amongst cattle hands
from the great Texas cattle drives; and �
WHEREAS, events such as Buffalo Bill Cody's Old Glory Blowout on July 4, 1882, and the Prescott Frontier Days Celebrarion on 7uly 4, 1888,
helped to cultivate and develop the rodeo, curren[ly dubbed the most dangerous sport on the North American Continent and the third lazgest sport in
America; and
WHEREAS, in 1978, Steve Gander took the historic tradition of rodeo and elevated it to new heights by starting the Dodge World's Toughest Rodeo
series, an event that tests the competitive wills and physical strengths of today's men and women, which has become the rodeo industry's lazgest
company; and
WHEREAS, Steve Gander, along with Saint Paul resident Bob Krei[z, has brought the e�tertainment and showmanship of the World's Toughest
Rodeo to over 4 million spectators in 27 states for the past 25 yeazs with each of those years i�cluding a show in a Twin Cities venue such as the
former Saint Paul Civic Center and the Xcel Energy Center; and
14 WHEREAS, since the inception of the Saint Paul Po]ice Mounted Panol in 1995, Steve Gander has helped to staff the department by donating two
1$ horses, a quarter horse named "Craketback," that has been officially renamed "Norman,° and "Smokin' Tough," another quarter horse that, while still
16 in training, may become the newest addition to the Saint Paul Police Mounted Patrol; and
17 WHEREAS, Steve Gander has been a longtime supporter of the Saint Paul Police Mounted Patrol by donating event proceeds which have allowed
1$ the Saint Paul Police Mounted Patrol to train in Canada with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and compete in events such as the regional
19 Hennepin County 3 Rivers Training event and the Nationa( Mou�ted Police Competition in Lexington, Kentucky; now, therefore be it
