The skills I would bring to SPNN's board are my experience in serving on nonprofit boazds (curtently and in the past) and as an executive director of a nonprofit organization. Thus I understand both from a govemance side to an implementation side the challenges and rewazds or working with and for a nonprofit organization. My nonprofit experience generally has been with economic development organizations that serve a variety of populations and azeas from the greater metropolitan area with AccountAbility Minnesota (which assists in tax prepazation for low-income families and small business) to a neighborhood-based organization - Riverview Economic Development Association - that works with businesses on St. Paul's West Side. The organization that I work for is both neighborhood-based - with regazds to construction projects - and Twin Cities wide -- as NeDA expands to serve the Hispanic community on housing issues. In all cases we grapple with how the local media can be utilized to better serve azea residents and businesses and how the media can encourage residents and business owners to become more invoived in their community.
