1 In Honor of Erwin Iiobert Newton
WIIEREAS, Erwin Robert Newton adopted Saint Paul as his home in 1958 and has spent his life in our midst
bringing joy and laughter to those azound him; and
4 WIIEREAS, Bobby owned a Payne Avenue baz for four yeazs and also worked at the old SchmidYs Brewery on West 7'�
5 Street until the day it closed thirty-seven years later; and
6 WHEREAS, he was featured in a television commercial mazking the brewery's re-opening and eagerly donned a pirate
7 costume to promote the new Pig's Eye beer; and
8 WHEREAS, with his wife, Delores, he raised four children, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, creating a
9 home on Juliet Avenue that was full of family activity and fun; and
10 WIIEREAS, the Newtons are active members of Nativity parish; and
11 WHEREAS, Bobby Newton is said to be well-versed on all the reasons why Saint Paul is a better place to live than its
12 less interesting twin city;
13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED that the City Council hereby thanks Bobby Newton far his life and service
14 among us and proclaims Monday, May 12, 2003 to be Erwin Robert Newton Day in the City of Saint Paul; and
15 BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the CiTy Council awazds Erwin RobeR Newton the Key to the City of Saint Paul.
