WHEREAS, Cha.pter 705 of the La.ws of Minnesota for 1965 pro-
vides for the conversion of Special School District No. 2 to
Independent School District No. 625; and
WHEREAS� Cha.pter 488, La.ws of Minnesota for 1967, Regular
Session, which law amends La.ws of 1959, Chapter 690, Section 3,
as amended by La.ws of Minnesota for 1961, Chapter 349, La.ws of
1963, Cha.pter 729, and Laws of 1965, Chapter 659, reads, in part:
"The said City, for the purpose of providing moneys for the payment
of its severance pay obligations under any such ordina.nce� hereby
is authorized and empowered, by resolution of its Council, in
addition to all other powers possessed by said City and in addition
to and in excess of any limitation upon the amount it is otherwise
authorized by law to levy as taxes, to levy taxes annua.11y not ex-
ceeding in any one year an amount equa.l to 40/100 of one mill upon
each dollar of �the assessed valuat�:on thereof for public schools,
upon all taxa.ble property in sa�d City, exclusive of tnoneys and
credits,� which taxes as levied shall be spread upon the tax rolls,
and all eollections thereof sha.11 be paid into the. treasury of said Cityx
therein to be a11oc�.ted tl�:erefor and to be disht�.r,�ed and expended by
� said City in payment of any such �ubi�.c school severa.n.ce pay obli�+
gations and for no other purpose. '; no�,v� therefore, be it
RESOLVED, By the Council of the City of Saint Paul, that it
"he,reby approves the sum of $106�794.00 for severance pa.y for em-

° ployees of Independent Sch.00l District ;No. 625, and hereby levies a
tax for 1972 in the amount of $108,396.00, including estimated
� shrinka.ge; and be it

his levy is certified with the understanding tha.t portions thereof
� will be fin.anced by rebates from the State of Minnesota from taxes
� � imposed by law as a replacement of sums which would otherwise be

FURTHER RESOLVED� That the County Auditor is hereby requested
to spread such tax levy as a separate item in its tax rate and to
report same as a separate item in each tax settlement to the City
of Saint Paul; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED! That the City Comptroller of Saint Paul is
hereby directed to credit all tax settlements and cha.rge all pa.y-
ments in the trust fund established for school severance pay; and,
be it
FINALLY RESOLVED� That the City Council hereby directs its
City Clerk to forthwith certify this tax levy resolution to the
County Auditor of Ramsey County and a copy of the same to Independ-
ent School District No. 625.
