That the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation and Public Buildings, having reported to the Council that the real estate described as: Lot 3� Block 29, "Lafond� Addit3on" to Saint Paul, Minnesota, and that part of the 11Tortheast ,i—, of Section 36, Tawnship 29, Ran�e 23, lyir� South of Lot 3� Bloek 29 "I,afonds Addition" described as follows: Cammeneing at the Northeast corner of Galtier Street and Thomas Street, thence east along Thoma.s Street 200 fe�t� thence north 67 Peet, thence west 200 feet, thence south 67 feet to beginning in Section 36, Township 29, Range 23, is required by the Department of Pa.rk� and Recreation and Public Buildings for its Scheffer Recreation Center Site; tha.t the estimated cost of the acquisition of said real estate is $75,000.00, and that the Comptroller has certified to the Council the manner in which the funds may be ma.d.e available; that the Council hereby approves the project for the acquisition of the said real estate for the aforesaid purpose and directs that the sazne::'�e acquired for such purpose by the Committee on Lands consistin� of the Mayor, the Purchasing A�ent, the Comm�issioner of Fina,nce and the Commissioner of Paxks and Recreation and Public Buildings, if the same can be acquired by purchase at a reasonable price, and it shall so report to the Council the cost thereof, provided, however, that in case the Committee on.Lands cannot procur� any or all of said land at a reason- able price, then it shaLl so report to the Council, and in that event, the Council hereby orders and directs that condemnation proceedings be in- stituted under the provisions of the Ci�y Charter to secure said real estate. Section 2. That this ordinance sha.11 take effect and be in �oree thirty (30) days from and after its passa�e, approval and publication. Funds for the above acquisition were approved in the Capital Impravement Budget for 1970 in the amount of $60,000. On June 2Z, 1971, an approval of $39,443 was received from HUD to be matched with local funds.
