1 Resolution dedicating the Selby Avenue Bridge to the late Merle Harris
2 WHEREAS, Merle Harris demonstrated extraordinary commitmentto the revitalization of Selby Avenue for more than four
3 decades; and
4 WHEREAS, Merle Harris contributed to this revitalizationthrough the three businesses that he owned and operated on Selby
5 Avenue over the years; and
6 WHEREAS, Merle Harris helped to found the Inner City Youth League, the Selby Avenue Community Development
7 Corporation, and the Selby Avenue Business Club; and
8 WI�REAS, Merle Harris crusaded for the reopening of the Selby Avenue Bridge during its renovation in 1993; now
9 therefore be it
10 RESOLVED,thattheSaintPaulCityCouncilrecognizesMerleHarris'contributionstothedevelopmentoftheSelbyAvenue
11 community; and be it further
12 RESOLVED,thattheSaintPaulCityCouncildedicatesandnamesthe5elbyAvenueBridgeinhonorofthelateMerleHarris.
