Minnesota Statutes 196g, Section 471 . 195 , is amended to read: 471 . 195 �NCLAIMEll YROPERTY, DISPOSAL.7 ( 1 ) Any city, village, or borough may by ordinance provide for the custody and disposal of property lawfully coming into its possession in the course of municipal operations and remaining unclaimed by the o���ner. Sucli ordinance may < provide �or the sale o� such property to the highest bidder at public auction or sale following reasonab]_e published notice after 1;he property has been in the possession of the municipalii;y for a period of at least �.��ee two months , excepi; bicyc]_es , which need only be in the possession of the municipality for a period of 15 days before the.y may be sold. Consistent with other applicable statutory or charter �rovision, the ordinance shall designai;e the fund into which the proceeds of any such sale shall be placed, subject to the rigllt of the former owner to pa.ymenl; of the sale price from 1�t�e fund . upon appl_ication and satisi'actory proo� of ownership within si� months of the sale or such longer period a,s - provic�ed by ordinance.
