i Wr��as, on January 9, 1997, forty Police Officer Candidates will graduate from the Saint Paul Police
2 Academy.
4 WI-IEREAS, this event is open to the general public, attended by many prominent persons from both the
5 public and private sectors of our city, and usually receives significant media coverage.
7 WHEREAS, a facility is needed to accommodate up to 900 potential guests safely and comfortably.
9 WHEREas, traditionally at an event such as this, refreshments (cake, coffee, and non-alcoholic punch)
10 are provided to guests after the ceremony,

12 BE iT oRDERED that pursuant to the 1997 City Budget, the proper City officials are hereby authorized to
13 remit an amount not to exceed $400.00 to School District #625, Saint Paul Public Schools, 360 Colborne Street,
�4 Saint Paul, Minnesota 55102 for auditoriuxn rental, equipment rental and maintenance fees required for the use
15 of Arlington High School; an amount not to exceed $100.00 to Arlington Aigh School, 1495 Rice Street, Saint
16 Pau1, Minnesota 55117; and an amount not to exceed $1,200.00 to Kane's Catering Service, 1560 Payne
17 Avenue, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55101, for catering service at the graduation.

Police academy graduation is open to the public and a£acility large enough to accommodate
up to 900 guests is needed. Arlington High School provides the seating capacity and parki
necessary.
Traditionally, cake and coffee are provided after the ceremony, and Kane's Ga[ering
a reasonably priced catering service.

The academy graduation is attended by r.iany prominent persons from both the public and
private sectors of our City, including Mayor Coleman and Gouncilpersons. The proper
facility allows us to show the Police Department in a favorable light, and showcase our
City governr.ment to the public.
