RESOLUTION DECLARING MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2002 TO BE BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN DAY IN
THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA
1 WHEREAS, Bruce Springsteen is one of America's �eatest living rock and ro11 artists, has sold tens of millions of
2 albums and is Imown as the `Boss" to his unpazalleled legion of loyal fans worldwide; and
3 WHEREAS, when Bruce Springsteen first entered the narion's consciousness, many believed Springsteen to be the savior
4 of rock and roll; as it was described at his induction in the Rock and Roll Hali of Fame:
5 America was staggering when Springsteen appeared The president just resigned in disgrace, the U.S. had
6 lost its first war. There was going to be no more oil in the ground. The days of cruising and big cus were
7 supposed to be over. But Bruce Springsteen's vision was bigger than a Honda, it was bigger than a Subanz.
S Bruce made you believe that dreams were srill out there, but after loss and defeat, they had to be braver, not
9 just bigger; and
10 WI�EREAS, Springsteen's most recent album, The Rising, is an immense critical and commercial success and many
ll songs on the album beautifully commerate the lives lost on September 11, 2002 and attempt to transcend the sense of loss
12 and pain experienced by all Americans; and
13 WHERAS, the City of Saint Paul proudly considers itself to be the Upper Midwestem home of the Boss, with the
14 Springsteen first having played in the City of Saint Paul on February 19, 1977 and the City having played host to seven
15 other Springsteen concerts, more concert dates than any other place in the State of Minnesota; and
l6 4VHEREAS, in June 1984 Springsteen kicked off his Born in the USA tour and filmed the classic and popular music
7 video for the song "Dancing in the Dark" at the Saint Paul Civic Center; and
8 WHEREAS, Springsteen will be perfomung at the Xcel Energy Center on Monday, September 30, 2002; and
9 4VHEREAS, the 18,OQ0 tickets for the concert sold out in just 28 minutes, making it the fastest selling concert in the
0 facility's history; now therefore be it
1 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council honars and celebrates the music and work of Bruce Springsteen by
t declaring Monday, September 30,2002 as Bruce Springsteen Day in the City of Saint Paul, Minnesota.
