THE SAINT PAUL ART CRAWL
OOTOBER 11 and 12, 2002
0
The St. Paul Art Crawl is a two day open house in Lowertown and
downtown St. Paul. Held twice a year in late April and in mid October, it
is a free, public, self guided wallcing tour of over 200 artists who display
their work in 17 sites including artists' homes, studios, neighboring
businesses, galleries and museums. It is Friday night from 6 to 10 pm
and Saturday from 1 to 6 pm.
The Crawl is run eacclusively by the volunteer efforts of about 30 members
of the St. Pau1 Art Collective, representing each of the participating
buildings and organizations. We then kure skilled member artists for
public relations, graphic design and web site creation. We hold
competitions with cash awards for the artists whose art is selected for the
semi aiuzual poster, the large banners and the pubficity pacicets.
The Art Cxawl grew out of the open houses held 16 years ago by the
L,owertown Lofts Cooperative and its neighbors. Of the buildings that
have been long-time committed participants in the Art Crawl, 6 are
housinglstudio or housing only and at least 5 are devoted to studio space,
art businesses, service organizations, and great nefghbors lilce the
Minnesota State Arts Soard, Springboard for the Arts, the Jerome
Foundation and the Minnesota Museum of American Art.
