1 WHEREAS, on July 24, 2002, the Saint Paul City Council voted in support of the Heritage Preservation
2 Commission's decision to deny the demolition permit application for the Grace CommuniTy Church (873 Portland
3 Avenue) because of its historic significance and prominence in the neighborhood; and
4 WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Counci] is supportive and interested in all community efforts to purchase and
5 renovate the property to maintain this historic building; and
6 WHEREAS, there is substantial community support for the preservation of this building; and
7 WHEREAS, Mr. David Kabanuk has purchased this property for redevelopment and future use as a charter school;
8 now therefore be it
9 RESOLVED, the Saint Paul CiTy Council requests City staff work with Mr. Kabanuk and Nova Classical Academy to
10 redevelop Grace Community Church as a charter school, which may or may not include variances for parking,
ll approval of a special conditional use permit and funding options by the city and other agencies.
