The first is the note indicating that 11 gauge hinges and door hardware is
desired. Specifications calied for stainless steel hardware. The gauge was
not mentioned. We priced 14 gauge hinges and door hardware, which would be
standard with 3!4" pilasters. The add t use 11 gauge hinges would be 52,140.
The add tb use 11 gduge cast stainless steel doar hardware wou7d be $2,128.
Rbout the note requesting samp7es--samles were sent out on April lOth. Pleas
let me know if you have not rcaived the box of samples. I have a suggest9on
for strenghtening the instaltatioa which does not require additiona1 money-
In the bOx of Sdmples was included a doub7e high aluminum braket which we
can supply at no additional cfiarge in lieu of the single high stainless steel
6racket. Ths was mentioned in the transmittai letter accompanying the samples.
2} Regarding the note on page 8 asking if the double pila.ster can be etzminated:
It could be deaIt with as shown on page 8 in Women's ZQ8, 423, 456 and Men's
455_ That change would require four (4) additional ext e.{_pane ' --rp
an add of $152. There ts not much that can be done in Men's 14 s the rrall pa
on the left is only 62" deep and would prevent the startdard stall for being
brought out the same depYh as the other two sta7ls. 7he only ther ug estion
would be to make all three stalis in Men's 149 61" deep. In Women's 1 2 the
standard stall can be brought out the same dept6 as the other wo wi out arty
problem. penceo w i Noea-2° r`

3) Regarding the question on page 29 asking if 3" and C" pilasters are stabte_
TH2y are 72ss stable than larger pilasters due to only having one top anchorage.
For this reason, Co3umbia Partitions tries to use larger size pilasters, and
on7y use 3" and 4" pilasters aE locations where thev wi71 6e attached to a

We have revised our esrimate concerning the referenced modificatian as it afFects our scope of
work.. Tlus letter supersedes owr letter of Mazch 18, 1996 wiiich addressed this item. In that letter
we mistakenly used the botton af footng elevation of an adjacenx pad which is slovvn to have a top
of footing of 70'-10" 9nstead of 75.0'. As pointed out by CPMI, the bottom of foatin is at 72'-10"_
l2FP 4.15 revised the footvig at grid 8.81/3.5 increasing the size to 5' squaze by Z'-2" thick. Ple3se
note that the additional excavation is more than the volume displaced by tl.e footing pad. The
excavation must lx ove.rsized for forms and sloping of the sides. Thz addzrianal excavation and
associated cast is shown below.

We have received RFP No. 4.40 conceming the loading dock closure wall. This will provide
separation between the loading dock area and the north slope of Exchange Street This issue was
• covered in the previous RFP 4.7. Our letter of March 5, 1996 priced out the item. Most of this
work has already been done since the footing has been installed and the majority of the backfill
placed. As discussed in our letter of 2/23/96, the backfill for this wall is almost impossible due
to access problems. This item was much discussed during the CP-1 contract work. Following is
a recap of our previous discussion and pricing.
The only feasible solution consists of placing a minimal amount of fill behind the wall prior to its
completion. This would provide minimal backfilt for the footing with the grade behind the wall
sloping down to the east and south. This will be short of the 5' maximum shoum by the architect;
however, we should be able to attain 3' of cover for the footing to provide frost protection. Any
more fill than this would simply be washed down over the Exchange Street retainine wall.
The additionai cost for this work assuming this method of backfill is as follows.

RFP 4.40 - Loading Dock Closure Wall (Old RFP 4.7)
As discussed, most of this work has already been done since the footing has already been
installed and most of the backfill placed. The only work remaining in our scope of work is to do
some hand backfill of the wall with the material already placed behind the footing. There will be
no additional fill placed in this area.

RE: Saint Paul Civic Center CP-4 Expansion

• M.A. Mortenson has provided a Contractor Proposal #4.19 for quarry tile in the kitchen in lieu of
elastomeric liquid flooring. The proposed cost is 529,410.
CPMI and HGA have revienied. This was bid in the main project, but was withdrawn by MAM.
Their original bid was 523,700. Original bids by other contractors ranged from $23,700 to
556,700. $29,410 has been reserved in the Change Order Log and is reflected '+n the current FSR.
If this change is taken, the Targeted Vendor requirement for this specification section must be
waived since other work has already been awarded by MAM. Susan Feuerherm of Joint Purchasing
acknowledged this would be acceptable.
The Health Department inspector, Steve Olson, recommends this change be made as do Volume
Services and HGA. it will provide a more durable floor for the users.
Please advise oi your decision. Thank you.
