WHEREAS, The employees of the City of Saint Paul are covered
by retirement programs as set forth by statutes of the State of
Minnesota; and
WHEREA5, Under the Authority of Minnesota Statutes Ch�pter 353,
an employee ma,y buy credit to cover periods where he was not covered
under Public Emploqees Retirement Associa.tion due to leave of absence
due to illness if
� 1. The member shall paq, in a lump sum to the
Public Emploqees Retirement Association an
amaunt equivalent to the required employee
contributions for the service sought to be
��� purchased; and

�,} �� 2. The member at the same time shall pay the
' amount that would hane been required of the
� r employer for thia period of time; and

WHEREAS, Under the authoritq of Minaesota Statutes Chapter 353
�; the City of Saint Paul may, as an alternative to (2) abone, by appropriate
r � action of its governing bodq, assume the obligation to pay to Public
" ° ' ,' Emploqees Retirement Association t�ie matching amount required in (2)
- �`` above; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That upaa recommenda.tion of the Health and Welfare
Committee, the Citq of Saint Paul shall, in all cases of involuntary
leaves of absences due to illness, assume the obligation to paq the
matching amount required in (2) abone for any employee wishing to buq
back coverage for the period of time covering said involuntary leave of
absence, providing that said employee is employed bq the City of Saint Paul
at the time of his election to so buv back.; and be it
