INITIATING PROBLEM, ISSUE, OPPORTUNIN (Who, Whal, When, Vvhere, Why)
The Division of Parks and Recreation provides over 2500 youth, ages 9-78, an opportuniry each summer to participate in baseball and softball
leagues. These leagues provide youth an opportuity to be outdoors, engage in physical activity, develop sports skills, develop friendships
with youth from their neighborhood, learn team work and have fun. Baseball and Softball provide a healthy and worthwhile alternative to
involvement in negative behaviors. The MN Twins Community Programs Fund grant will make funds available to teams with limited financial
resources for equipmeM, uniforms and league fees in hopes of expanding the number of youth participating in basebal{ and softball.
ADVANTAGESIPAPPROVED
Funds will be provided for equipment, uniforms and league fees for recreation center teams and non-recreation center teams (Boys 8 Girls
Clubs, area churches) witfi 4imited financial resources and who want to participate in the Division's Baseball and Softbalf program. funds wiN
also be used for minor upgredes to baseball and softball fields to improve their safety for example insWlling double bases, rebuilding pitching
mounds, installing new players' benches, and regarding and/or adding agrilime where needed.
