The necessity for such funds arises because of the followin� circumst��ces : The 1971 bu�oet for Elections included $8,792.00 for redistricting costs following the expected legislative reapport�.gnment. The legislature failed to take action on - reapportionment in 1971. At the end of the calendar �ear the sum of $6,708,00 was returned to the general #'und from the election account. In June, 1972, a federal court reapportioned t:-�e state effective for the Sept. and Nov. 1972 elections . This necessitated redistricting involving some 60 precincts of the city. Expense� wi:!_1 include postag� for .an estimated 30,000 postal notices, printing of notices, and clerical help to effect the cr�anges. This work is already under wa�, and the Election Bureau belie ves that it can be accomplished �rith the $6,700.00 which was returned to the general fund at the end of 1971. �.
