WHEREAS, Mayor Randy Keil�s Capital City Education Iniriarive places a high priority on all children in
Saint Paul reading at grade level by grade 3; and
WHEREAS, the education initiative also piaces a high priority on working closely with higher education
institutions to meet pressing city needs; and
WHEREAS, the St. Paul Companies attempts through its charitable giving to assist education efforts; and
WHEREAS, the St. Paul Companies has agreed to donate $62,000 in support of Mayor Kelly's reading and
higher education initiatives to fund essential planning and infrashucture efforts; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.071 of the City Charter, does certify there is $62,000
available for appropriation in excess of those estimated in the 2002 Budget; and
WfIEREAS, the Mayor recommends the following changes to the 2002 budget;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council approves the above changes to the 2002
budget and on behalf of the citizens of Saint Paul, accepts the contribution by St. Paul Companies of $62,000
for the Capital City Educarion Initiarive.
