Madam President ancl
Members of the City Council
Re : Ordinance Waiving Fees for Moving & Building Permits
for Certain Houses to be Relocated from Maxfield School Site
Honorable Council:
The attached ordinance is the result of several meetings between
representatives of the Department of Community Services, the
St. Paul Urban League, Community Housing Corporation, Housing and
Redevelopment Authority and others in cleveloping a program to save
some of the houses that were schedulecl for demolition on the
school expansion sites.
A need has been shown for moderately priced housing in the Summit-
University area and the goal is to have eleven single family dwellings
relocated, rehabilitated and made available to persons on limited
income at the lowest possible cost.
The program is presently being handled through the St. Paul Urban
League and they have requested that the City of St. Paul waive the
collection of building and moving permit fees on the selected
buildings to assist in keeping the costs to the necessary minimum.
It has been estimated that the total fee dollars involved are
approximately $1, 600.
Your support and cooperation is solicited as an indication of
the cooperation of the City in saving some of this needed housing.
Your,g✓truly,
.
