Mattson Budget Director 365 City Hall St. Paul , MN 55102 Dear Roger: At the request of the City Architect's office and the Mayor's office, the Minnesota Museum of Art (a member agency of the Saint Paul Council of Arts and Sciences) is processing a questionnaire regarding art that exists in public places and in educational institutions in the city. Aid in compiling this information and providing photography of the art works was sought by the Art Department of Bowling Green University, Bowling Green, Ohio, which is publishing a two-volume edition of Art in Public Places and Art in Educational Institutions in the United States. Five to eight plates of art wor s in Saint aul , with descriptive text, will be included in the publication. The written request for this information was received in the Mayor's office in May and was referred to the City Architect's office. From there the matter was referred to the Minnesota Museum of Art, which offered to assist the City with the survey. At the time the project was turned over to the Minnesota Museum of Art, the decision was made by the Museum staff and the Director of the Saint Paul Council of Arts and Sciences to seek a grant from the City to cover the costs of processing the survey. For the purposes of evaluating and writing up information on the art works of importance that exist in public places and educationa institutions in Saint Paul , the Minnesota Museum of Art hired a professional art historian. (See attached resume of Marie Therese Aamodt) She has been at work on the project since July 1 and, aided by a photographer recently, will complete the work by October 1 . The Saint Paul Council of Arts and Sciences is seeking a grant of $1 ,500.00 from the City to contribute to the Museum's costs in staffing the survey and the photography. 30 east tenth street, St. Paul, Minnesota 55101 (612) 227-8241 Schubet Club •Science Museum of Minnesota •St.Paul Opera Association • Chimera Theatre Company •Minnesota Museum of Art •St.Paul Philharmonic Society Mr. Roger A.
