 Dear Mr. Friedmann: '
This is to confirm our previous statements relative to the urgency of completing.
the ramp repairs as outlined in our report dal:ed April 24, 1973.
Structural Repairs
. It is our opinion that the structural repairs should be made before the ramp
is again subject to freezing temperatures. It is our recommendation that
the following structural repairs be complete before November ISth of
this year. • % . "
1. Install slab support angles in the parking areas, all levels.
2 Repair the column-beam connection at columns I4A and 8A, all levels.
3 Repair the expansion joints in the pedestrian walkways, all levels.
4. Provide a new expansion joint in the north wall at Grid 14.
We estimate construction cost of these structural repairs to be approximately
yQ o00 35, 000 to 40, 000. Our fee for reparin tilans and s ecifications and providing
.
7pp ontinuous ie ins ction services would approximate n additional 7,Oe

------- 'The repair of the joint waterproofing could be delayed until L-he summer o£ 19 ,
bui: Llic amp would Ue subject- to excessive water leakage. We recommend that
these waterproofing repairs be made no later than next- summer to prevent
lurther deterioration of the ramp. The waterproofing work to Ue done is as
follows: . '
1. Replace L-he water seal at all expansion joints.
2. Seal the leaks at the pedestrian tunnel below the Kellogg 131vc1. Bridge.

3. Seal the roof of the electric equzpment room. .
4. Paint the north wali of Ehe ramp.
`Sy lTe h.ve est' d L-he consL-ruction cost of these waterproofinb repairs to be
 50, 000 .;55, 000 plus a design and inspection fee of approximatiely $7,7 00
 Ol EJ.ectric Snow Meltin System
Fourteen of the eighteen heating cables on the plaza (top) level of the ramp
helixes were found to be inoperative. To provide safe vehicular access up and
down the helixes, these heating cables should be "replaced or an alternate
method of snow melting be installed. '
Our estimate for installiz7g a new snow nzelting system, on each helix at the
SOGU plaza level only, is $35, 000 plus a design and inspection fee of $4, 200.
_ -
Lo
="—' If this snow melting system is not replaced before this winter, the Authority
l,g Z a can expect to spend additional maintenance funds for snow i Ezoval from he
-- helixes.
' In.summary, it is our recommendation that the structural repairs definitely
be made this fall. The joint waterproofing and snow melf:ing replacement
could be postponed until next suxximer. If,the last two itemsare not done
until next summer, the Authority should expeci; to pay increased construction
costs due to inflation and increased maintenance expenses during the winter.
  Very truly yours,
