WHEREA.S, the Metropolitan Transit Commission is presently
considering the adopti.on of an improved fare zone plan which will
consist of overlapping circles radiating from the downtowns of
St. Paul and Minneapolis at intervals of six miles, eight and ten
mi les; and
WHEREAS, this policy will reduce inequitable fare costs such
as the "double fare" charged transit riders going between St. Paul
and Minneapolis and promote the greater use of transit by the people
of St. Paul and the metropolitan area; so, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that this Council, on behalf of the people of
St. Paul and in an effort to promote widespread use of transit
systems, does hereby declare its enthusiastic support of this
new fare zone policy; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Council directs the Clerk
to transmit a copy of this resolution to the Metropolitan Transit
Commission and ask that this be made a part of the record at the
public hearing to be held on September 17, 1973, in Room 300,
Metro Square Building,
