02-312ORIGf NAL Presented CouncilFile# p4-�\1, Green Sheet # tD � i R 1{ RESOLUTION CITY OF SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA � � Referred To Committee Date i WFIEREAS, every year workers in the city of Saint Paul aze killed or injured on the job; and 2'WI�REAS, the Saint Paul Area Trades and Labor Assembly and its affiliates have fought for decades to improve 3 conditions on the job; and 4 WHEREAS, lazgely because of the efforts of the labor movement, the Occuparional Safety Health Act (O5HA) 5 was passed in 1970; and 6 WHEREAS, future tragedies may be prevented through renewed efforts to see strong safety and health standards 7 and increased enforcement of those standards; and 8 WHEREAS, Apri128 is the day chosen by representatives of organized labor as the time to remember those who 9 have been killed or injured in the workplace. 10 NOW, THEREFOIiE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council proclaims Sunday, Apri128, 2002 11 as "Workers' Memorial Day" in Saint Paul in recognition of workers who have been killed or injured on the job; 12 and 13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be prepared and transmitted to Ray Waldron, 14 President of the Minnesota State AFL-CIO and 7ohn Sweeney, President of the AFL-CIO.
