Honorable Lawrence Cohen, Mayor
Court House
St. Paul, P1inn.
Dear Nlayor Cohen s
On behalf of the 50 members of the St. Paul Section NCJW
I urge the appointment of Mimi Goldstein (Mrs. Sheldon
to the St. Paul Human Rights Commission.
I1imi is extraordinarily well qualified for this post. She
presently ie employed by our Independent School District #625
as the Director of Community School Intercultural Programs.
This position was created for her as the result of previous
innovative eff'orts as a volunteer in the schools.
In 196 Mimi created Project A.D.A.P.T. (Appreciating Dif-
Perences Among People and Trings. 2000 elementary school
children presently participate in this program and riimi
supervises the 50 workers who are implementing it.
Mimi also started the Conmunity/School Intercultural Program.
This program was developed to design curriculum that will
increase cultural awareness and to study cultural conflict
at the secondary level in 3t. Paul. Programs are also de-
' veloped for the community at large. This activity is funded
by the Governor's Council on Quality Education.
As you can readily see, bimi Goldstein would make a tremendoua
ccntribution to the St. Paul Human Rights Commission. We had
inteded to obtain endorsement from the Human Skills Bank, but
time did not permit. Fhoebe Kent suggested I write directly
to you about the aFpointment.
I think 3t. Paul is lucky that Mimi is willing to take on this
added responsibility. Thank you for your consideration of this
matter.
Sincer ,
Suzanne Leonard, President
